I’ve made several attempts to learn Vim since I discovered it around 25 years ago. I making another one now, having picked up the book Use Vim Like a Pro by Tim Ottinger. I confess never liked Vi when I was required to use it at university, and had a marginal preference for Emacs. Vim always struck me as being a bit nicer (even in 2001, it had features like syntax highlighting and presumably lots more). And I recently learned that Vim has its (distant) origins in the Stevie editor on the Atari ST, so using Vim in FreeMint feels kind of like coming full circle. Even though Vim itself was first developed for the Amiga, the ST’s rival back in the day.

This post was written using Vim. Hopefully I’ll get a bit better at using it as I work my way through the book.
